Kaduna Assembly accuses Bello El-rufai of threatening Speaker Liman

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has denounced the actions of Bello El-rufai, a federal lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency.

Bello is the son of immediate past governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The assembly alleged that El-rufai attempted to obstruct the assembly’s investigation into financial dealings and project implementation from 2015-2023 in the state.

The assembly described the actions as “erratic and unruly” and expressed concern over the behavior of a federal lawmaker entrusted with representing the people.

The assembly’s spokesperson, Suraj Bamalli, in a statement on Wednesday, said El-rufai took to social media to insinuate a call to “fight” and disrespect the legislative arm of government.

“Shortly after the establishment of a committee to investigate financial dealings, loans, grants, and projects implementation from 2015-2023 in Kaduna State, Hon. Bello Elrufai took to social media with two tweets, now deleted, insinuating a call to “fight” and disrespecting the entire Legislative Arm of Government,” the assembly stated.

It also alleged that El-rufai sent insulting and threatening messages to the assembly’s speaker, Yusuf Liman.

“The screenshots of these tweets and messages have been widely circulated, causing concern among the citizens of Kaduna State.

“It is disheartening that a Federal Lawmaker, entrusted with representing the people, would resort to such behavior attempting to obstruct the lawful functions of the State Assembly.”

It, however, noted that threats and intimidation from anyone, including federal lawmakers, will not deter the state House of Assembly from its pursuit of justice and accountability.

The Assembly said it remains resolute in its mandate to provide checks and balances and uphold the rule of law in Kaduna State.
