University of Maryland suspends fraternities and sororities pending investigation

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The University of Maryland has ordered fraternities and sororities on campus to slump social and recruitment actions after the college bought a pair of reports of unsafe actions.

A letter sent Friday from university officials to fraternity and sorority presidents informing them of the suspension did no longer listing the alleged misconduct as hazing but as a alternative referred to “actions that receive threatened the protection and nicely-being of members of the University community.”

The suspension applies to all organizations affiliated with the College Park campus’ Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council, which signify 21 fraternities and 16 sororities, respectively.

The letter says the suspension shall be in region indefinitely while an investigation takes region. Fraternities and sororities are barred from any contact with unusual or prospective members, and barred from web web hosting any events where alcohol is existing, in accordance to the letter.

The motion at Maryland comes loyal days after the University of Virginia suspended its Kappa Sigma chapter after an alleged hazing incident Feb. 21.
