SABRE 2024: NIPR, Nigeria Customs emerge African PR Awards finalists

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have been selected as finalists for the 2024 SABRE Africa PR Awards in Crisis/Issue Management and Public Sector/Government categories, respectively.

The campaigns of the two organisations were undertaken in partnership with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), the publishers of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential, and Spokesperson’s Digest.

The 2024 Awards for Superior Achievement in Branding Reputation and Engagement (SABRE) will be held on May 16 in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, on the sidelines of the annual Conference of the African Public Relations Association (APRA).

The NIPR, now attracting an unprecedented number of registered members, was nominated for using media relations and stakeholder engagement to fight quackery in PR practice. The NCS was nominated for its advocacy on customs activities, reforms, citizen compliance, and stakeholder collaboration.

Speaking on the nominations, IMPR CEO, Yushau A. Shuaib said: “We are delighted about the outstanding campaigns that have been selected for the prestigious global awards. We will continue to support our stakeholders and clients with the best in PR through professionalism and excellent service delivery.”

The SABRE Awards, organised by PRovoke Media in collaboration with APRA, recognises exceptional campaigns, brands, and agencies that exhibit the highest levels of strategic planning, creativity, integrity, effectiveness, and business results across Africa.

The NIPR, under its President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, conducts programmes to enhance PR professionals’ image, sanctions persons practising without certification, and is championing the appointment of only certified practitioners as spokespersons in security services, and other public and private institutions.

NCS Comptroller General, Bashir A. Adeniyi, a fellow & former VP of NIPR, was Customs longest-serving spokesperson. Within 100 days as CG, he deployed PR tools for public awareness, which resulted in improved border security, revenue generation, and stakeholder relationships.
