Tunde Onakoya begins his quest to set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Chess Marathon

Nigeria’s Tunde Onakoya has completed one full day in his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest Chess marathon in Times Square, United States.

Onakoya is attempting to break the longest chess marathon which currently stands at 56 hours,nine minute and 37 seconds.

The record was achieved by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad (both Norway) in Haugesund, Norway, on 11 November 2018.

Onakoya took to his X handle to give update on how he is faring in his quest.

“It’s officially one full day of playing continuous chess in our attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest chess marathon,” he wrote.

“Coach Shawn Martinez and I have played 60 games and the fatigue is naturally setting in. But one thing we will not do is stop.

“We will raise a million dollars and bring the gift of chess to children across the world. Your support is needed now, more than ever.”

Onakoya will be aiming to become the latest Nigerian recipient of the Guinness World Record.

Other notable Nigerians who have achieved the feat include Hilda Baci, Wizkid, late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Rema, Kaffy.
