The Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issue, empowered 200 women with a point of sale (PoS) machine and N4 million as a start-off grant.

This empowerment was in conjunction with GIZ, Wema Bank and other partners who are passionate about women’s empowerment, as part of activities to mark International Women’s Day(IWD).

The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Osato Ekhator, said that the gesture was expected to help the women become independent by engaging in business.

On his part, the coordinator for GIZ, Joel Zombu, noted that the organisation has implemented a lot to empower women in different spheres, as well as contribute to gender policies with the ministry.

He maintained that the organisation has been in collaboration with Nigeria for 50 years and also empowering MSMEs, youths and women to run their businesses better.
