Teslim Folarin accuses Makinde, OYSIEC of fraud in council elections

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 28 election in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) of perpetrating electoral fraud.

Folarin, in a tweet on Sunday, denounced the recent local government elections in the state as a “charade.”

“What Governor Seyi Makinde and the OYSIEC demonstrated today was a charade and should not be allowed to stand,” Folarin said.

Folarin alleged that pre-election irregularities, including discrepancies in the list of ad hoc staff and election materials, marred the election contrary to assurances of a level playing ground by OYSIEC chairman, Isiaka Abiola Olagunju.

“In spite of assurance by the OYSIEC that there would be an open, free and fair LGA elections, there was no election in Oyo State today,” he added.

“Sadly, the promise was not kept because the ruling PDP cannot win in a free and fair contest against the All Progressives Congress.”

Makinde, according to Folarin, is consistent in his position that he does not believe in the local government system.

He also alleged that the governor’s alleged undemocratic and fraudulent stance has crippled good governance and development at the grassroots in the last five years.

“Our people are tired of misgovernance of PDP administration in the state & waited patiently for an opportunity to vote in a party – APC that believes in LG as an instrument of grassroots development. Unfortunately, Gov Makinde and his OYSIEC disenfranchised them,” Folarin said.
