Moses, the man who did not want to be sent to Egypt because he was “slow of speech” (Exodus 4:10), delivered the three addresses to Israel that make up the book of Deuteronomy. God gave him the power to develop from a stuttering shepherd into a national leader and powerful orator. His courage, humility, and wisdom moulded the Hebrew slaves into a nation. But Moses was one person who did not let success get to his head. In the end, God was still Moses’ best friend. His love, respect, and awe for God had grown daily throughout his life. Moses knew that it was not any greatness in himself that made him successful; it was the greatness of the all-powerful God in whom he trusted. There were many great and powerful prophets during the time of the kings. But it would be more than a thousand years before one greater than Moses would appear—Jesus.

God Loves To Answer Our Prayers (Read Jeremiah 33:1-9)

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know,” (Jer 33:3).

God delights in talking to us — the above text makes it clear.

But how eager are we to talk to Him?

God assured Jeremiah that he had only to call to God and God would answer (see also Psalm 145:18; Isaiah 58:9; Mat 7:7). God is ready to answer our prayers, but we must ask for his assistance. Surely God could take care of our needs without our asking. But when we ask, we are acknowledging that he alone is God and that we cannot accomplish in our own strength all that is his domain to do. When we ask, we must humble ourselves, lay aside our willfulness and worry, and determine to obey him.

God’s ear is continually open to us. He hears even the weakest and faintest of cries. The much loved hymn, ‘What a Friend we have in Jesus’ puts it like this:

“Can we find a friend so faithful

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

Take it to the Lord in prayer.”

Conditionalities For Answered Prayers (Read 2 Chron 7:11-16)

How did God respond to Solomon’s prayer?

“Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, … 13: When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people. 14: If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15: Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place,” (2 Chro 7:12-15).
