Lagos State government today announced an end to the 50 per cent cut in fare in state owned transport system.
In a memo sighted on Saturday by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, it directed that it’s field officers be informed by the development.
The stoppage is coming about two months after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the policy to cushion the effect of subsidy removal in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this after the monthly security meeting of the state in late July, said the policy would take effect tomorrow, August 2, 2023.
Sanwo-Olu also said that arrangements had been made with various transport unions to give a 25 per cent discount as well. He said his government would be proactive to make life bearable for residents.
But while the slash was complied with by state owned transport system, privately run commercial buses did not yield to the governor’s instruction.
